World book day
Characters come to life
Residents of Southborough were delighted by a special visit from the children of Sutherland Day Nursery. The residents, lovingly known as “GranFriends,” were thrilled to welcome the little ones, who brought an abundance of energy and joy. The children, dressed as various characters, shared their favourite stories with the residents, sparking imaginations and creating a magical atmosphere. The highlight of the visit was the nursery’s principal making a grand entrance as Mary Poppins, inspiring the children to embrace their roles and immerse themselves in the stories.
World Book Day celebrates the magic of reading and the many benefits it brings to book lovers of all ages. For older adults, it offers mental stimulation, while children develop language skills and creativity. Brook House invited children from Towcester Primary School to read their favourite stories to residents. Some of the residents’ grandchildren also joined in the fun with a wholesome performance of The Three Little Pigs. Everyone shared what they love about reading – nine-year-old George described it as an adventure, while resident Patricia said she enjoys learning new things through books. It was a wonderful occasion that sparked imaginations and connected generations through a shared love of storytelling.
Adventures with Pooh

The residents and children gathered around as she read her favourite book from her childhood, Winnie-the-Pooh. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful time together, reading, singing, and getting creative by making their own bookmarks to take home for their books. Resident Christopher shared, “It was brilliant! I had the most amazing time with the children, and it was great to meet Emma!” Stories and smiles For World Book Day, Scoonie House warmly welcomed the children of Buckhaven Nursery, who got into the spirit by dressing as their favourite fictional characters, from Disney princesses to Marvel superheroes.
