Moments of Joy

Wee Ones and Wise Ones

Forth Bay recently introduced ‘Wee Ones and Wise Ones,’ bringing together two generations for fun-filled sessions of songs, stories, and cuddles! The idea came from a simple and lovely thought - bringing little ones and residents together for special moments. The curious little ones were in their element, exploring a new place, meeting friendly faces, and giggling away as residents entertained them with smiles and games. Residents were overjoyed to spend time with the little bundles of joy, enjoying a cuddle and reminiscing about the days when they were young parents themselves.

At Ferfoot, the team and residents had a special visit from Owl Adventures. Lydia from Owl Adventures brought along a variety of birds, including an Indian scops owl, a barn owl, a Eurasian eagle-owl, and a Harris hawk. Residents had the chance to interact with the owls, petting them and watching as some of the birds flew. The visit sparked a lot of curiosity, with residents asking questions and learning all about the birds. Home Manager Roxana shared, “It was amazing to witness the beautiful birds flying around, and the residents’ reactions were truly heartwarming.” Owl adventures

Holi festival The team and residents at Dormy House recently celebrated the Hindu festival of Holi. Celebrated at the end of winter, on the last full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month, Holi marks the arrival of spring. The home burst into a sea of colour as everyone gleefully threw handfuls of bright powders at one another and released an array of colourful balloons to symbolise new beginnings. Adding to the festivities, the talented tap dancer Katie, from the Tap About Town show, put on a fantastic performance for everyone.

Residents and team members at Oaken Holt recently ventured down the rabbit hole with their very own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Nikki and Erin from the wellbeing team went the extra mile to transform the lounge into a whimsical wonderland. Residents enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with fantastic costumes and a scrumptious afternoon tea in the beautifully decorated space. Everyone took part in a ‘best hat’ competition, getting creative with some weird and wonderful designs. Resident Grahame was crowned the winner for his fun and imaginative creation! Residents with green thumbs

At Bourne House, residents have been reconnecting with their love for gardening. With guidance from the lifestyle coordinator and care team, they planted tulips, daffodils, and snowdrop bulbs, adapting from outdoor to indoor planting as the seasons changed. The project sparked cherished memories, with residents sharing stories of their own gardens and allotments. John, the home’s dedicated ‘garden guardian,’ regularly checked on the bulbs, ensuring their growth. After tending to their plants, residents enjoyed tea, coffee, and biscuits, reflecting on their horticultural achievements and the joy of watching their flowers bloom.

Musical trip down memory lane Priory Court was recently visited by Richard as part of his ‘Memories Are Made of Music’ project, using music to support those living with dementia. He played a nostalgic mix of 50s and 60s rock’n’roll classics that had residents singing, dancing, and reminiscing, including Edward, who shared a dance with Lifestyle

Lead Fiona to Bring Me Sunshine. The song brought back a flood of memories and emotions for him. This wonderful project is a reminder of how music can be a powerful tool in dementia care. As Richard shared, “It’s not just about the music itself, it’s about the memories it brings back and the conversations it sparks.”
