Community and cheer
Edna
The Garth House community recently came together to celebrate resident Pam’s 88th birthday. Pam is an avid creative with a passion for arts and crafts, knitting, crocheting, card-making, and creating jewellery. She loves to spend time with her loved ones and is known for her love of singing and parties, so the Garth House team organised a fitting party, with family, music, games and delicious treats! Everyone had a wonderful day, especially Pam, who shared, “I thoroughly enjoyed my party! Thank you to everyone who joined me to celebrate.”
Sundridge Court recently celebrated beloved resident Edna’s 100th birthday. Born in 1925 in Beckenham, Edna grew up as one of eight siblings. She left school at 14 to work at a dry cleaners before helping in her parents’ greengrocer’s shop during the war years. She married her dear husband, Ron, in 1944 and raised twins, Marilyn and Michael. Family has always been at the heart of Edna’s life and her family has since grown to include two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Edna has been a member of the Sundridge Court community for the past four years. She is well known for her warm smile and enthusiasm for group activities, especially enjoying regular exercise sessions and always bringing positivity to those around her. When asked about the secret to a long life, Edna simply shared:
Dancing through the years
The team and residents at Southlands Place recently celebrated the wonderful Joan’s 99th birthday. Born in Bexhill-on-Sea in 1926, Joan (affectionately known as “Smiler”) has spent her entire life in Bexhill. A passionate dancer, Joan often reminisces about her time performing on stage. She fondly recalls her happy marriage to her beloved husband and takes great pride in her son and daughter. Joan loves sharing stories of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she especially enjoys when her family joins her for events at the home, such as craft afternoons and themed days.
Being happy and enjoying every moment!
Phyllis
Coppice Lea was proud to celebrate a truly special milestone as resident Phyllis marked her 100th birthday.
Joan, a cherished resident of Belmont Castle, recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. Joining the home in February 2024, she’s since brought joy to the community with her vibrant energy and sense of humour. Joan enjoyed a successful career as a solicitor and is an avid football fan, having supported Maidenhead United for many years. In 1951, she married her husband Ronald and the two went on to explore the world together on many cruises. Her favourite meal is a traditional English breakfast, and when asked about her secret to a long life, Joan attributes it to a small drink every night - whether it’s a Whisky Mac, a glass of Merlot, or some dry sherry! A life of adventure
Born in Surrey in 1925, Phyllis developed a passion for sports and music from a young age. At 17, she joined the Land Army during World War II, playing an essential role in supporting the nation’s farming efforts. In 1950, Phyllis met her beloved husband Dennis, and together they raised three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Their home was always lively, with friends and family joining them for parties. Both animal lovers, the family also included many pets, including cats, dogs, and chickens.
